Craig Maxwell-Keys, 2020 Premiership Final Referee: Battling Anxiety and Being Gay in Rugby

Craig Maxwell-Keys, 2020 Premiership Final Referee: Battling Anxiety and Being Gay in Rugby

Another week and another episode of The Rut where we explore, in many instances to new depths, the world of men's mental health from all angles and try to find answers to the burning questions which still swirl around by exploring people's minds.

This week I'm very excited be joined by again by a friend, a truly nice guy and brilliant ambassador for LGBTQ in sport, Premiership Referee Craig Maxwell-Keys.

Craig is one of the youngest ever referees of the Premiership Final at Twickenham which shows how highly he's regarded in the game and he's had various challenges along the way.

In 2019 Craig came out as gay publicly which was another step forward for men and women in professional sport, following Nigel Owens as rugby's openly gay referees.

This episode also focuses in on his battle with anxiety which gripped him before some major games he refereed abroad.
