The Rut is back for Season 2 with a cracker to open this epic series of podcasts on men's mental health (if we may say so ourselves!). We sit down with Premier League Footballer, Joe Bryan, who plays for Fulham.
Joe is not your average footballer. First and foremost, he scored two goals in the 2020 Championship Play-Off Final to bring Fulham back to the Premier League with one of the most outrageous and audacious free-kicks you'll ever see. But, Joe is also incredibly curious and a self-proclaimed bookworm who reads across a variety of subjects in his spare time.
Why is he opening our Season 2? Well, this is the first time Joe is speaking publicly about his struggles with his mental health which happened in 2018 and 2019 when Fulham got promoted back into the Premier League. In this podcast, he talks about his experience of depression in 2018 and anxiety in 2019, and articulates wonderfully how that made him feel.
We talk about how since seeking help, he's been able to explore what triggered his problems and has been on a brilliant and enlightening journey of self discovery and peace.
Joe is a challenging and engaging thinker who was a genuine pleasure to sit down with and we're hoping you'll see a different side to footballers.
So, here's Joe's story... please leave all judgement at the door.
