Luke Sutton- How Addiction Almost Destroyed My Life As A Professional Cricketer

On the podcast this week it’s a real pleasure to welcome a man who is one of the kindest human beings I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing.

His story is immense for multiple different reasons. His story covers professional cricket, playing for Somerset, Derbyshire and Lancashire. He scored almost 8,000 first class runs in his career, with a top score of 151 not out.

Yet, despite the success on and off the crease, he suffered with brutal depression and anxiety, culminating in an intense battle with alcohol which left him in The Priory wondering what the hell happened.

Having retired in 2011 because of his battle with depression and alcoholism, he went on this incredible journey of recovery and built a very successful talent management agency.

He is the author of two books, Back from the edge: Mental Health and Addiction in Sport and Life of a Sports Agent, both exceptional reads, especially Back from the edge.

Welcome, to the podcast, Luke Sutton.

Here’s Luke’s story so please leave all judgement at the door.
