Thomas Roycroft-Davis, the Sibling Episode: "There were points when I was 16 when all I wanted to do was end my life because..."

This week, I sit down with my brother, Tom in the last episode of season 1. Tom’s had a chequered history with mental health problems over the years, suffering from severe depression through his teens after he never felt like he fitted in at school.

The education system didn’t really work for Tom and he openly admits his mind was always taken over by limiting beliefs systems; self loathing, jealousy, never feeling good enough and feeling like he wasn’t liked by his friends, were daily battles for him.

Having battled suicidal thoughts, being expelled from school, feeling like he was in the wilderness of life, Tom now is in the best place he’s ever been because he’s started an intense but incredibly rewarding journey of self discovery and learning to love himself.

We go deep into some of the issues Tom has experienced:
👉being suicidal at 16
👉being expelled from school just before his A-Levels
👉binge eating disorder which left him in debt
👉how him and I repaired our relationship through our shared experience of mental health problems.

I have so much respect for this guy, not least because he’s my brother but I just admire his strength, resilience and self awareness but This was actually a really difficult conversation to have because it’s tough to hear your younger brother suffer so badly. But, I’m so proud of this episode, and him.

Here’s Tom’s amazing story, so as always, please leave all judgement at the door.
